Meet Dr. Jan Liles

Jan Liles, Au.D. is an audiologist providing hearing aids, hearing tests, and various audiology services in Northern Alabama.

Dr. Jan Liles is a doctor of audiology and co-owner at Alabama Hearing Associates. A lifelong native of the Yellowhammer State, Dr. Liles earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo and her master’s degree from the University of Alabama.

From 1991 to 2001, she worked with two ENT medical practices and initiated one of the first newborn hearing screening programs in the state. In 2002, she was awarded a doctorate in audiology from the University of Florida. Dr. Liles and her long time best friend Dr. Sheehy founded Alabama Hearing Associates in January 2002.

Dr. Liles considers herself a problem solver, and she spends her days helping people to hear soft voices or voices from a distance; understand conversations in restaurants or family gatherings; hear phone calls; understand speakers at meetings or church; and hear grandchildren and co-workers. Hearing loss affects all aspects of life, and Dr. Liles loves to make life better for her patients.

Her favorite thing about being part of the Alabama Hearing Associates team is the support they give to each other, especially our Patient Care Coordinators. They “take care of a thousand behind-the-scenes details each day so that we can help our patients to hear better.”

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Liles lives in Huntsville with her husband Perry. They have two sons, Jay and Jonathan. Hobbies include reading and scrapbooking. Dr. Liles is involved in local and international missions through her church and carries a special place in her heart for the villagers of Chuluc, Guatemala.

Outside Of The Clinic

What’s your favorite season?
Spring – I enjoy sitting on my back porch and watching the landscape change from washed out to vibrant colors, the green grass, bright red and green Caladiums popping up, my old Hosta in a pot unfurling again, and the Cherry tree full of fluffy pink and white flowers right outside my older son’s window. We call her “Jay’s Happy Tree” every Spring when she puts on her flower show. Spring makes me feel hopeful. It’s a fresh start, a chance for the world to be beautiful again.
Who is your favorite sports team?
Alabama Football – Roll Tide!
What is your favorite food?
Thanksgiving Food – not so much turkey, but all the other sides like cornbread dressing with my special tipsy cranberry sauce, squash casserole, broccoli casserole, sweet potato casserole (topped with half pecan brown sugar for me and half marshmallow for my husband), Margaret’s sage rice, and pecan pie. Makes me thankful just thinking about it!
Dog or Cat?
Both.
If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go?
Perry and I went on a Mediterranean cruise for our 25th anniversary. It was all wonderful, but the best was the two days we spent in Venice before flying home. I would go back to Venice in a heartbeat and I’d love to see more of Italy.
